The Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) is a comprehensive instrument that assesses facets and well as overall job satisfaction. There are two versions–the legacy 9-facet, 36 item JSS developed in 1985, and the 32-item 8 subscale (7 facets and overall job satisfaction) JSS-2. The JSS-2 was developed to address psychometric weaknesses in the original JSS, and to provide a free-standing measure of overall satisfaction. The legacy version has a long list of published papers using it, extensive norms, and translations into several dozen languages. The JSS-2, which is based on the original, lacks published research, has limited norms, and fewer translations.
